John R. Schroeder, owner of eo art lab, grew up surrounded by art. His mother’s father was a discerning art collector, owning well-known pieces by Frederic Remington and Daniel Garber among others. His mother’s sister and her daughter have been producing provocative art for many years in California and Colorado. His father’s mother was an energetic painter in south-central Ohio. As a child, John would study all the works around him. They were an endless source of curiosity and inspiration. He learned at an early age that there is always more than initially meets the eye, both in art and in life. Fueled by this notion, John spent most of his childhood days exploring and documenting his observations, perceptions, and understandings through drawing, painting, and model building. He soon realized that the dynamic relationship between observation, perception, and understanding is further shaped through the artistic process. This was a powerful concept and led John full circle to the idea that architecture, like art, could shape one’s initial observation, perception, and understanding of a place, a thing, or an event. Add to this mix, the more subconscious processes of dreams and imagination, and one can readily see the infinite and profound reach of art and architecture. John received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied art history and immersed himself in many different artistic endeavors such as film making, bronze casting, wood sculpture, photography, and glass blowing. John is a member of the American Institute of Architects. He worked at Centerbrook Architects, winner of the national AIA 1998 Architecture Firm Award, before forming his own firm in October of 2003. John has visited hundreds of art museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. He’s studied and interacted with the works of thousands of artists.
