Thomas Stavovy (Connecticut) (see images below)

Thomas Stavovy is an artist to watch. His artistic trajectory will continue to result in work that is deeply profound. His breathtakingly pure approach will expand artistic boundaries and lead to amazing discoveries. Having studied history at Yale University, he is keenly aware of man’s connection with culture, nature, and the spiritual world. He realizes that his open, symbiotic methodology will result in revelations about each of these connections. His works are experiments and he is conducting research. The truths that are exposed from this research result in sublime graphic beauty and intrigue.

Stavovy’s work articulates a world within the image. The process begins with a mark that signals the presence of an idea. The development of the form proceeds in time by deliberate mark-making, as one mark calls for another, leading to a population of marks of different qualities. The marks communicate decisions about touch, position, and medium. Marks refer to qualities of the instrument or suggest an unmediated linkage between material and intellectual processes. The process by which the materials interact and express their properties pushes the compositional idea, so that the image reveals unfolding relationships between the idea and the material.

Stavovy is a collectable artist in the sense that, over the years, you will find his artwork moving in many different directions for the journey does not follow a set path. He will go where the art takes him. And it is quite probable that different works will fit together like pieces of a puzzle. It is no wonder that his work has been recognized in exhibitions across the country including Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, and Connecticut.
